
About Deirdre Denholm, E-RYT

Deirdre received her yoga teacher training from the Sivananda International Yoga Vedanta Headquarters Ashram in Val Morin, Quebec in 1999. She is a member of the Yoga Association of Greater Detroit and is registered with the Yoga Alliance.
Deirdre has been practicing meditation (Buddhist Vipassana style), for over 12 years, and has attended meditation retreats by Norman Feldman & Molly Swan, and a 9-day Buddhist silent retreat at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts (led by the Ven. Ajahn Amaro). In 1998, she attended a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher training program (Mt. Madonna, California), taught by Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D., and Saki Santorelli Ed.D., M.A.. MBSR is a program developed at the Center For Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts Medical Center, to help people cope with stress using meditation and yoga. Deirdre has helped apply the MBSR program for persons with clinical anxiety and depression through the Royal Victoria Hospital, Mental Health Services, in Barrie, Ontario, and continues to teach MBSR in Michigan.
Formal education includes Bachelor degrees in Psychology and English, from York University, Toronto, post-bachelor studies in psychology at the University of Western Ontario, in London, and a 4-year diploma from the Ontario College of Art and Design ,Toronto (A.O.C.A.). Future goals include finishing a bachelor of science in nursing from Oakland University, and pursuing a career in medical research.
